Extending compassion and relief for the urgent needs of the most vulnerable.
Urgent, unexpected needs emerge every day from homes of corrugated metal, plastic sheets, and cement in the slum community of La Limonada. Families already struggling in deep poverty face sudden illness, fire, unaffordable medicine, loss of a loved one, funeral expenses, or simply bus fare to get to the public hospital.
The Community Relief Fund enables the team in Guatemala to respond to the urgent, unexpected needs of the vulnerable with compassion and tangible support. Through:
Community nurses, Janina and Blanqui, offer relief to many suffering from respiratory illness, diabetes, ulcer and bullet wounds, high blood pressure, and other health concerns. They are often accompanied by other health angels who offer compassion to those most in need. The “clinic in a backpack” weaves throughout the community making home visits. Wherever they go, they are ready to listen, to pray, to offer counsel, and to intervene, meeting urgent needs that could easily otherwise be devastating and even life-threatening.
Affectionately referred to as, “Tita’s box,” the team in Guatemala has a benevolence fund ready for urgent needs throughout the community. When a child is suddenly orphaned, a home taken by fire, or some other crisis has hit a family in the community, the team can provide relief to those most in need.
