We are 28 days into our “50 States In 50 Days” Campaign which means there is 22 days to go for you to be a part of our movement to extend our partnerships across the US. If you are not currently a monthly partner, please consider sponsoring a teacher, sponsoring a child or joining TEN2END today. If you are, please keep spreading the word to family and friends and encourage them to invest in the lives of people living in the largest urban slum community in Central America – La Limonada in Guatemala City.
This week we are focusing again on our “Sponsor A Teacher” program. The teachers and other staff members at the schools in La Limonada currently make approximately $7 a day. The average worker in Guatemala City makes $14 a day. For $50 a month you can help to provide one of the teachers with a fair wage while building a personal relationship in the process.
We’d like you to meet one of our teachers…
Janina has been a member of Tita’s team for almost 10 years now. She is a single mom, and has 2 children, Ronal (20) and Frances (13). She has also been caring for the 1 year old child of a neighbor who was hurt in a domestic violence incident last year. She teaches our oldest students at “Escuelita Mandarina”. Janina has a great sense of humor and loves to joke around with the people around her. What impresses us the most about Janina is her desire to follow God and her servant’s heart. When Tita felt God leading her team to start going over to an “off-limits” barrio in La Limonada (where Escuelita Mandarina is now), Janina was the first to volunteer – risking her life go.
She loves doing home visits, being with people and praying with families. She also takes the time twice a week to visit an elderly bedridden man (Vitalino) in order to bathe him. She loves to serve and loves to care for others.
To sponsor Janina or another staff members at the schools who give their lives to serve the children and families of La Limonada, go to our website and click on the “Sponsor A Teacher” icon (just like the one to the left) for instructions.
Thank you for supporting the teachers and for investing in the people of La Limonada!
