The children are La Limonada’s future. Much of Tita Evertsz’s efforts since 2001 have revolved around providing the children of La Limonada a safe place to learn and grow.
Since 2001, the team of teachers and staff members at the schools have provided hope for the children of La Limonada through the “Vidas Plenas” (Full Lives) program at the two schools established in the community. These schools are not recognized by the Guatemalan government, but are places where children ages 4-15 are taught the way of Jesus. They are loved, valued, fed, clothed, educated, taught proper hygiene and provided with scholarships to attend formal school.
Escuelita Limón was the first school established in La Limonda in 2001 with a small group of young children. By 2008 it had grown to serve more than 150 children every year. In 2009 Escuelita Mandarina was established in a neighboring barrio after a leading gang member helped to create an open door for Tita and her team to establish a presence there. Now more than 150 children attend school there as well.
The schools each serve as beacons of light and hope in the darkness of La Limonada. The buildings provide much more than a space for the schools. They are the heart of the community of the two barrios where they are located. They provide a place for parenting classes, church gatherings and Bible studies, as well as a safe gathering space for their communities.
More than 40 local Guatemalans, a majority of whom are from La Limonada, are employed by the schools as teachers, assistant teachers, cooks, and custodians – all of whom have devoted their lives to unconditionally loving the children entrusted to their care.
Through Child Sponsorship you can support the work of the schools and help make a difference in the lives of the children whose lives are impacted at the schools.
Through Teacher Sponsorship you can help to provide a fair wage for the schools’ teachers and staff members who have given their lives to serve the children of La Limonada.
