The Community of Faith breaks the traditional and religious mold that has kept a majority of the people in La Limonada from being part of a church.
Organic gatherings take place in homes throughout the community that often become “standing room only” – with people spilling out into the streets as the homes are filled with the sounds of music, prayer, and the reading and study of Scripture.
“Comunidad de Fe” as it is known in La Limonada – was born out of a growing desire to know Jesus through relationships. Whole families, challenged to embrace and follow in the way of Jesus, are actively seeking out and forming relationships, truly making it a community of faith.

Belen hosted the first Community of Faith gathering in her home. At first, the group was small, but it has continued to grow to a point where there are now 7 homes in La Limonada that rotate three times a week to host the meetings. The true blessing behind the Community of Faith is the sense of belonging that comes to those who attend. The meaningful relationships that come from being able to relate to and understand others who are part of the Community of Faith is something that can’t be described.
Those who are a part of the Community of Faith are provided with spiritual guidance by Shorty, a pastor with a true heart for La Limonada. Shorty is able to speak to the members and to the young people of the community as a person who understands the culture, because he grew up on the streets of Guatemala City himself. There is a respect for him that can only come from his ability to understand, to get what it’s like to live in a place like La Limonada. Shorty is a highly respected person because of his background and his willingness to walk through life with people. He continues his work with the people there because he knows that God has called him to this work. Shorty’s heart for the children, single mothers, and elderly in particular is making a significant impact.
When Belen first started with the Community of Faith, she didn’t like many Christians because she didn’t believe that their testimony of faith was true. Through this ministry her heart has changed. God has opened her heart to the truth of His love and the way of Jesus, and she finds herself being transformed.
